Overview

The purpose of this research proposal/presentation assignment is to provide students the opportunity to present and justify the need to study a particular research problem and present practical ways in which the proposed study should be conducted. The research proposal will be comprised of an introduction, literature review, and methodology section. This is a research proposal, NOT a traditional “research paper.” You will be proposing a research study, pretending like you are the principal investigator/researcher. You do not actually have to conduct the study; however, this assignment may serve as a springboard for your practicum/capstone courses within your program of study.

Instructions

Students will select a research topic, preferably during the first week of the course.

Research topic is: Eating Disorders in Rural Area Adolescents

Research Proposal: Introduction Assignment

Introduce the research problem and provide background information on the research problem. The introduction does not need to be lengthy. Remember to cite your content and include at least two relevant references. Be sure to include the cover page consisting of title, author, contact information, and affiliations. The title should include the variables being studied. This could be accomplished in as few as 9 words-though more or fewer might work. Include the remaining components: Background of the Problem, Statement of the Problem, Purpose of the Study, Research Objectives, Hypothesis, and any Operational Definitions.

Research Proposal: Literature Review Assignment

This section justifies why the proposed study should be conducted based off evidence from the literature. The literature review starts with a broad focus and then narrows down. The review should justify your study idea and provide an in-depth review of the existing literature. Your Literature Review Matrix is helpful with organizing this literature review. Discuss hypotheses, methods, results, study limitations or strengths that you find in the literature along with comparisons, critical analysis, or themes you might see emerging between groups. You may also include gaps in the evidence and whether the results varied based off a population or setting.
