Reflection on two key questions

  1. Refer to the EYLF, and write a 500-word reflection on your critical understanding of the Practice ‘Assessment for Learning. Discuss what it is, its significance and focus particularly on one strategy that you would use to ‘identify children that may need additional support to achieve particular learning outcomes’.
  2. Refer to the ECA Position Statement and write a 500-word reflection on ‘Areas for Action’. In particular, discuss the importance of building positive attitudes, beliefs and values to create an inclusive environment, and the importance of partnering with family members to support children with special needs or diverse abilities.

This assessment has two parts. 1. One is a checklist and the other is a 400- 500 word justification for the checklist you have produced. You should make reference to at least two readings to support your narrative. In the justification, you should briefly define ‘social and emotional development’, provide a brief outline of the indicators of social and emotional development of a 3-5 year child, and one strategy that an educator can utilise to identify a child that appears to be falling behind the social and emotional developmental continuum. 2. Design a checklist that you would use to assess the social and emotional development of a child (3-5). The checklist should contain 20 items spread through at least 3 different areas or domains that you would assess through observation and documentation.
