GUIDELINES: WRITING THE DISCIPLINE PAPER

Due Date 28 April 2023 @ 11:59 p.m.
Essay Length: The Final/Revised Draft of the Discipline paper should be 5 typed/word processed and double-spaced pages long–about 1000 words–using a standard sized font and point size (e.g. 12-point Times New Roman) with one-inch margins at top, bottom, and both sides. [NOTE: The Works Cited or the Reference page does not count as part of the 5 pages.] The paper must be documented according to either MLA or APA. Students should use the documentation format required by their majors. Most majors require APA format; however, students may choose the documentation type for this paper. Whichever format students select, the format must be consistent with the guidelines for MLA or APA format. There is a link to the Purdue Owl documentation center at the end of this prompt to assist students with MLA and APA format.
TOPIC: For the Discipline Paper, students will relate their major to the war in Ukraine. The war in Ukraine provides a situation that affects people from all walks of life. As a future professional, you will come across situations that will challenge you to think outside of the box on responding to the problems of people and events. Are you prepared? Are you receiving the guidance from your college curriculum to prepare you for the challenges you will face after graduation? The Discipline Paper affords students to opportunity to critically think about the impact they will have on a community and how students might respond or react to a difficulty situation. Use the following as a guide to writing the Discipline Paper.
SECTION 1: [Name of Major] Criminal Justice

In this paragraph, explain to the reader what your major is and what is its purpose. Talk about the curriculum at the University.
Paragraph 2: [5-8 Sentences]
In this paragraph, explain to the reader to the reader the career opportunities. What can one do with a degree in this discipline?
Paragraph 3: [5-8 Sentences]
In this paragraph, explain to the reader why you choose this major and what you plan to do with your degree.
SECTION 2: The War in Ukraine
This section should include MULTIPLE PARAGRAPHS. You want to focus on the CAUSE of the war, the EFFECTS the war has had on the Ukrainian people, Russian people, European nations, the world. You also want to talk about the atrocities of the war.
SECTION 3: The Problems
Write a 5-paragraph essay addressing three problems you see from your perspective as a Social Worker, Communications Major, Criminal Justice Major, etc.
SECTION 4: The Solutions
Write a 4-paragraph essay addressing two solutions you see from your perspective as a Social Worker, Communications Major, Criminal Justice Major, etc.
SECTION 5: The Conclusion
Write a conclusion for the paper that ties everything together. Talk about the challenges that you will as a Social Worker, Communications Major, Criminal Justice Major, etc., not only in dealing with a situation like war, but those challenges you will face right here in the United States. You can write MULTIPLE paragraphs for this section.
