You are an established Renaissance Italian artist (painter, sculptor, AND architect, you are pretty amazing!) and you have accepted a commission to design the private chapel of a very wealthy, connected patron. The patron expects you to use the High Renaissance or Mannerist style and aesthetic in their private chapel. (Yes, the patron likes BOTH styles, which is lucky for you because it gives you a lot of options for your design.)
Review Chapter 22 in your textbook and review the links below. These links are meant to inspire your design process because they detail similar commissions. Keep in mind there are hundreds of other inspirations to be found between your textbook and SmartHistory. https://smarthistory.org/st-peters-basilica/ https://smarthistory.org/michelangelo-last-judgment/ https://smarthistory.org/chapel-eleonora-di-toledo-florence/
Design the private chapel. You will write up your plan for a chapel and all interior decorations. In the design description you must identify the following:
Who is the chapel dedicated to and why?
At least three architectural features unique to the High Renaissance and/or Mannerist style
At least one fresco painting.
What/who will it feature? Describe the stylistic qualities (such as color, line, shape, composition, etc.) of the subject of the fresco. Make sure it is designed in either High Renaissance or Mannerist styles.
Where is the fresco located within the chapel?
Submit your description to the discussion board. Posts should be at least 250 words.
