This week you will complete the final step of developing your argument research paper. You will be taking the information from your revised outline and writing your final paper. Keep in mind that there is valuable feedback from me on your outline, so please make sure that you review it.
Ideally, you should have a piece of evidence from a secondary source to support your own ideas after each claim you make. You aren’t removing anything from your outline you submitted last module; what you are doing is adding in secondary support material to back up your own voice. I’ll be looking to make sure you have done this with each claim you make in your outline. Incorporating evidence in this way will ensure your voice is heard and balanced with the voices of those also having the conversation (your secondary sources).
Remember that you are expected to introduce EACH of your sources the first time you use them. When introducing a source, you should include the following information: the author’s name, his/her credibility, full title of the source, and a one-two sentences summary about the source’s thesis and conclusion. Once you’ve done this, you don’t ever have to do it again in the paper.
Submit your final draft. This paper is worth 15% of your final grade. You should have an outline (first!), then the full text of your research paper (750+ words/3-5 pages not including outline or Works Cited pages), and finally the Works Cited page.
You must use proper in-text citation (also called parenthetical citation/documentation) for all paraphrasing, summarizing, and quoting of the short story. Use the author’s last name and page number.
The Outline:
Do NOT include any information in the introduction or the conclusion.
Utilize complete sentences that are grammatically correct and use proper punctuation.
Include your source information from your secondary sources.
Properly document your sources.
Properly introduce your source, the title, and the author the first time it is used in your source.
Following these guidelines will help you achieve the goals of this paper.
