This is a capstone paper on Ban the Box legislation. I have included my research paper that I have written so far. I have almost 4500 words. I need at least 8800. I have the abstract, bibliography, table of contents. I am a bit stuck trying to produce more work, and I definitely need an analysis that brings it all together.
This is not just about reporting information, but analyzing it as well. Survey what different states are doing and how they are handling ban the box legislation (i.e. asking about criminal history early on in the application process, asking about it later, not asking about it at all, or only taking criminal history into consideration when it is essential to the job, like in finance or working with children). I need to make an analysis on how having the capabilty to get a job after an arrest or even a long period of incarceration allows a person to build confidence, reclaim their dignity, serve their community, support themselves and their families, and build a better life for themselves, their families and communities. And then stating my impression, making comments, analyzing the pros and cons, and what should happen. I have to defend my stance. I basically believe that in some instances, it is important to look at criminal history. You can’t have a bank robber working as a financial controller. But, if sufficient time has passed, then you also shouldn’t hold someone’s arrests or criminal history against them, because it sets them up for failure. Be able to explain the “why”, and how to accomplish.
