The student will understand the perspective of the patient experiencing a health problem and this
will help them to deliver responsible and relevant care. The purpose of this assignment is to
encourage the student to think from the patient’s perspective, helping the student think in
terms of treating the person, not just the disease.
Assignment
1. Think about a time when you had to listen to a patient (or family member of a patient) who has
experienced or is experiencing one or more of the following: **CHOOSE ONLY ONE OR MORE**
o a chronic health condition ( ex: COVID, DM, HTN etc)
o a disabling or disfiguring condition ( ex: leg amputation)
o a traumatic event
o a lack of insurance
o other significant experience affecting their well-being
To receive credit
2. 2-3 (total) typewritten pages, double spaced, using APA
including a title page and reference page. All references need to be peer review or required
course resources. Describe The patient’s (or family member’s) experience from their perspective (as if
you are writing for them). Please include citations from required reading books from the class or
cites that are reliable. Must have a minimum of 2 peer review references within 5 years. You may also include, your thoughts or feelings, but this is optional. Do not include the patient’s
real name.
Ex: Patient came in to the ER for …… Then talk about the story from the patient’s perspective after describing briefly the situation.
