PART 1: Write an Options Paper outlining three options, as specified below:

  • Option 1: Make employee selection and promotion entirely based on algorithms.
  • Option 2: Completely avoid using algorithms in employee selection and promotion.
  • Option 3: Make judicious and balanced use of algorithms and human judgement in employee selection and promotion.

PART 2: Write a Critical Analysis on the topic that further explores all three of the above options through literature review focusing on theoretical aspects of the topic and the role of HR in the process.

SCENARIO 2: Learning & Development and Global Leadership Development

You are the Global Head of Learning and Development division in a large multinational company in the automobile sector that is headquartered in the USA but now has a significant presence in Asia. The company believes that the future of the company lies in how well it integrates its operations and organisational culture with Asia. The CEO and all the top management personnel frequently visit their Asian operations and clients and keep exhorting the HR leaders in the company to play a key role in attracting, developing, and retaining talent with a truly global mindset.

Impressed by the above article, the CEO calls a meeting of all the senior managers at the headquarters, including you as the Global Head of Learning and Development division, and seeks their views on how best to develop a global managerial talent pool through the company’s Leadership Development programmes.   • Option 1: To ensure a strong organisational culture, make only minimal changes to the design and content of the leadership development training programs and retain the core values and culture of North America.
  • Option 2: Radically revamp the design and content of the leadership development training programs to reflect the Asian century and embrace and institutionalise the Asian culture throughout the global network of the organisation.
  • Option 3: As the company doesn’t have the experience and insights needed to develop truly global oriented leadership development programs, outsource them to third-party service providers who have the experience and track record in the field.
