Assessment Guidance
Assignment 1: FILM PROJECT (GROUP)
Length: 3-Minute Video and 1000-word accompanying statement
Deadline: Thursday 2
nd April (Week 9) Noon
Weight: 30% of the module grade
********************************
Guidance on the Assignment:
This assessment will draw on topics covered in Weeks 1-9 of Semester 2.
In Week 12 (Wednesday 22
nd April) we will have a (full class) screening of some of the best
videos at the “Golden Gateway Awards”. Students (people’s choice) and staff (critics’
choice) will select their favourite with prizes for the winning groups.
You do not have to buy any specialist equipment to make this video – you can use a phone
or computer camera.
You can edit using free software like Vimeo or Panopto. Sometimes the free version of
certain software will leave a watermark on your video – you will not be penalised for this.
Your video should not violate data protection or copyright laws.
o The easiest way to make sure you are complying with copyright rules is to use only
your own material in the video. There is no expectation that your video will include
any additional materials, such as video and music.
o You are welcome to use material created by other people (called third party
material), as long as you are careful to respect the copyright license associated
with that material. It is difficult to give general advice on this, because the
copyright license varies across videos (this Vimeo article explain different

A Business School of 2036
The video should be accompanied by a jointly written 1000-word explanation of the video
in which you justify key elements of the video using reputable evidence to justify your
choices.
Please note all assessments on this module should use the appropriate
assessment cover sheet (found on Moodle) and be uploaded to MMS in
pdf form. This is to allow us to upload your assignment to the marking

copyright categories for music) and the way you use the video also matters. If you
do plan to use other work in your video, make sure you are familiar with the basic
principles of Fair Use (there are many sources for this, like this video). If you use
any other material, make sure you also cite it on your reference list in your
accompanying 1000-word statement.1
o To ensure that you do not violate data protection laws, anyone appearing in your
video should be playing a role e.g. not sharing their personal information. You
must have written permission from anyone – other than your group members –
who appears in your video.
Nobody from your group has to appear in the video.
For this assessment, the use of Generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or any
similar platforms) is strictly prohibited for the design your Business School, or to write the
script for your video. However, you may use AI to produce a voice for your script or
produce images so long as this is acknowledged in your written submission.
You will be able to find a lot of examples of admissions videos online from lots of different
institutions and in lots of different styles (day in the life, programme focused, abstract).
Here are a few:
o Cambridge University
o Columbia Business School
o Kemmy Business School
Remember you are being assessed on the content and format of the video. Do not worry
if your video looks less polished than professional admissions videos.
The assignment is intentionally open – you can decide where your business school is
located, how it teaches management and to whom, however you should justify the
choices in your written statement. Your business school curriculum might look similar to
your current degree programme; it might resemble the programmes of the past; or the
management curriculum of the future might be radically different. This is your
opportunity to critically assess management education.
The 1000-word statement should be used to explain your video, justifying your choices
and further explaining the rationale behind the design of your business school.
Evidence could be academic articles, reputable policy reports or other reliable sources.
You should use Harvard referencing and provide a reference list at the end of the 1000-
word statement. The reference list will not be included in the word count. The reference
list should also include any third-party material used in the video.
The assignment will be marked using the Marking Rubric for Assignment 2. You will be awarded
marks for demonstrating:
o A well-justified account of the issues likely to be of concern to (management) students
in 2036
o Conducting a critical but balanced assessment of management education
o Creating an imaginative vision of the contribution of management graduates to
addressing contemporary issues
o Developing a compelling advertisement for your Business School of 2036

In keeping with the theme of acknowledging sources – thank you to Dr Leighton in Economics who shared
this guidance on copyright for student video assignments.
Submitting your Assignment

the group.
