Why I’m Interested in Graduate School
I am interested in graduate school because it represents a significant step toward advancing my education and achieving my long-term career goals. Graduate school will equip me with the core skills necessary for success in social work, preparing me for a fulfilling career in this vital field. My ultimate aim is to pursue a PhD, which will prepare me for clinical practice and advanced training.
My motivation for choosing social work stems from my desire to improve support for families and children in our communities. Social work is in high demand, and professionals like case managers and community health workers play crucial roles in enhancing community well-being. I aspire to become a licensed clinical social worker to help many families.
Walden University stands out as an excellent match for my goals. The university’s commitment to promoting social change aligns with my desire to make a meaningful impact in my community. The skills I will gain, including written and verbal communication and time management, will be invaluable in my career. Walden’s general format and online courses will allow me to balance my studies with my full-time job, household responsibilities, and quality family time.
During my undergraduate years at Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), I was dedicated to becoming successful. While my first two years were strong, my GPA fell to 2.3 in my final year due to personal challenges, including the loss of family members. This led me to take some time off to regroup. Despite this setback, I am determined to pursue my goals with renewed focus and determination.
My life experiences have taught me responsibility from a young age. I have a strong interpersonal skill set, particularly in supporting others, and I am learning to work effectively as part of a team to better serve families in need.
Admission to Walden University will enable me to pursue my goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker, promoting social change and making a significant difference in my community. I am committed to maintaining a clear mind, working at my own pace, and staying focused on my academic work to achieve success. I look forward to gaining the knowledge and skills needed to complete my goals and thrive in my career.
