Instructions for Short Writing Assignments
Locate a short article from a newspaper, magazine, web or other source of public information that fits in with our adolescent development course topics.  Consider the article in light of what you have learned about the topic from our class readings or discussions and express your views in a one page paper.
Each one page paper should include three elements:
The first paragraph should introduce the reader to the article and briefly summarize the main point or the section of the article that you intend to focus on.
The second paragraph should connect the article to the course topic and tie the reading in with something we have discussed in class or something that was presented in the reading assignment.
The third paragraph should articulate your thoughts about the article and the related course topic after you have compared and contrasted the ideas in the article with the information studied on the related topics in class.
Any popular press article that you can reasonably tie in to a class topic will be acceptable. Your grade will be determined by how well you connect the article you have selected to our course topics and how well you articulate your ideas in the final section.
The purpose of this assignment is to challenge you to think critically about the information you are processing and to practice articulating your own ideas.
Correctly cite your sources on a separate bibliography page. You will include the citation for the article you have chosen and for the class connection you refer to in your paper (textbook, video, lecture, etc.) A copy of the article must accompany your one page paper and late papers will not be accepted for full credit.
