Human Factors Engineering
Workstation Design – V4 Car Engine Assembly
Anatomical Movement Analysis, Workplace Assessment and Workstation Design to mitigate risk and musculoskeletal injuries
- Design an ergonomic workstation and job action implementing with both engineering controls and administrative actions.
- Analyze the work activities by determining the anatomical movements and by identifying key movements that may lead to musculoskeletal injuries. (See Table 1 Template for analysis of job action below).
- Identify the ergonomic concerns and propose an appropriate working height, postures by use of appropriate assessment tool (if necessary) such as NIOSH, RULA, REBA, Snook’s Table etc.
- Provide appropriate step by step and complete instructions to assembler on how to assemble engine.
- Provide instructions on tools (Allen keys, screw drives ) should be used to assemble the components.
- Proposed appropriate lightening and 5s strategy or implementation that how components should be arranged at the workstation for quick identification and assembly.
- Workstation should accommodate diversity for individuals who work on the Table 1 Template for analysis of job action

Submit a Formal report summarizing the work activity with the completed ergonomic analysis. The engineered design solutions are to include drawings of the layout (include dimensions), label equipment, indicate flow patterns and provide cost estimates. Remember to keep safety as a priority. Indicate the solutions, both the engineering solutions and the administrative actions as short term and long term solutions. Justify the design.
Also, prepare 8 minutes oral presentation summarizing the analysis and designs developed.
