Financial Health Presentation
Objective: Create a Board presentation to communicate the
financial health of an organization.
Introduction
In
Week Three, we learned that there are four primary financial reports regularly
prepared and used by effective organizational leaders to guide them as they make
important financial decisions: budget (including year-to-date
spending), balance
sheet, profit
and loss statement, and cash flow statement. The annual budget
is a one-year plan that includes dollars allocated per line item with % of
those monies spent year to date. The balance sheet, also referred to as
the statement of financial position, reports the financial position of an organization
at a moment in time. The profit and loss statement also referred to as
the income statement, operating statement, earnings report, statement of
revenues and expenses, and statement of revenues and expenditures, compares an
organization’s revenues and other support with its expenses for a period of
time. Finally, the cash flow statement enables the reader to understand
how the organization received and used cash over the course of the accounting
period.
Instructions
For
this assignment, you will create a (7)
slide PowerPoint.
Assume you are the Executive director of the nonprofit organization you used in
your prior week’s assignment. Based on your review of the financial data,
prepare a presentation for the Board providing them with a snapshot in time of
the financial condition/health of the organization. Be sure to include the
actual budget (including
year-to-date spending), balance
sheet, profit
and loss statement, and cash flow statement in your
PowerPoint. Explain in detail the data from each report including an
analysis of this data. Use appropriate ratios and other analysis tools.
Your
presentation should be no more than 10 minutes long.
