Global Health Nursing Presentation

This assessment measures your ability to evaluate policies and practices impacting global health nursing.

As an advanced practice nurse, you understand that global health nursing issues are also issues that will affect your community. Knowing what resources exist and how to use them will make you a more effective advanced practice nurse.

Navigate to the Global Health Estimates: Life Expectancy and Leading Causes of Death and Disability page by the World Health Organization.
1. Click the Indicators tab.
2. Select an indicator significantly affecting the U.S.
3. Select another country that is not affected or slightly affected by the same indicator you reviewed for the U.S.
4. Explore the data related to this indicator, including mortality rates.

For example, if you select number of deaths attributed to non-communicable diseases, by type of disease and sex as your indicator, you will then explore the relevant information pertaining to this indicator, such as any visualization, data, and metadata. For metadata, note how the data can be disaggregated and how the indicator is defined.

Watch “How to Navigate the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Health Observatory Site” located under Assessment Support (bottom of this assignment) for step-by-step navigation. This video is not narrated.

Locate at least 4 peer-reviewed articles that provide evidence of the problem in the U.S.

Assessment Deliverable
Create 14- to 18-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes in which you compare the indicator data for the U.S. to the indicator data of another country that has lower mortality rates.

Include the following in your presentation:
o Describe the U.S. mortality data you selected, providing evidence of the existence of the problem.
o Compare the data of the U.S. to the data to another country that has lower mortality rates.
o Provide an evidence-based rationale for the other country’s management of the problem surrounding the social determinants of health and health inequity.
o Provide a comparison of the health policies of both countries that improve or negatively impact the problem.
o Determine if a new policy is needed or if an existing policy should be changed to improve the incidence and mortality rate of the problem.
o Identify leadership competencies and skills that would be required to create a change to positively impact the problem.
o Discuss possible platforms nurses can use to influence change in managing this problem.

Include a minimum of 4 peer-reviewed scholarly references from the University Library and/or this class.

Cite your sources on a reference slide and format according to APA guidelines.

Bulletpoints on the slide should correspond to talking points in the speaker’s notes.
