ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

For this assignment, you will prepare a report that describes the current state of an organization’s big data and identify potential business problems or business decisions that will benefit from data-driven decision making. Next, you should describe what value a Big Data initiative will bring to the organization. Lastly, you will outline what data types and data sources you will use to implement your initiative.

You may select your current workplace or an organization that has some significance to you. If you are not currently associated with a workplace or organization, you may select one that you are interested in or one that has been reported recently in the media.

You may organize your plan in a manner that best describes your plan. However, you should include the following criteria:

1. Select an organization that could benefit from a Big Data collection initiative. The description should include a brief introduction of the business, a description of its activities, its sector and industry, key products/services, and customers. Treat this as a contextualising section.

2. Current Data State

1. Describe the organisation’s current state of its data. Consider how data is being collected, stored, used and how it connects to the broader business strategy.
2. Consider any theories, models or concepts discussed in the chapters or readings to strengthen your descriptions.

3. Key Problems or Decisions

1. Describe any business decisions surrounding potential problems, issues, limitations, and/or opportunities that may benefit from data-driven decision making.
