For this assessment, you will prepare a project proposal for an intervention program including background, rationale, goals, program overview, and theoretical background addressing one of the three topics.

Assignment Task

Assessment task 1: Online Tests: Description

The online multiple-choice quizzes provide opportunities for feedback on your understanding of key theories and concepts in this subject.

• The multiple-choice quiz questions are based on the topics of work that you have complete in the weeks before the test is scheduled (e.g., Quiz 1a is based on content from Week 1, while Quiz 1b is based on content from Weeks 2 to 6).

• Each quiz is open-book and is run online via the LearnJCU subject site.

• Quiz 1a comprises 20 multiple choice questions, each worth .5 marks, for a total mark out of 10. You will have 30 minutes to complete this test and you will only be able to attempt the quiz once. The timing starts when you open the quiz, and the quiz will close after 30 minutes if you have not completed and submitted it. This quiz provides an opportunity for early feedback on your understanding of key concepts in this subject.

• Quiz 1b comprises 40 multiple choice questions, each worth .5 marks, for a total out of 20. You will have 60 minutes to complete Quiz b, and you will only be able to attempt the quiz once. The timing starts when you open the quiz, and the quiz will close after 60 minutes if you have not yet completed and submitted it.

Marks will be awarded for each correct MCQ answer. The total marks awarded for the quizzes will be converted to a percentage attainment from the 30% of the total subject assessment allocated to this assessment task. Note that while recall of specific statistics (e.g., 26.6% of men are found to be overweight) is not required, general trends and findings may be tested (e.g., health spending is lower in non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples).

Assessment task 2: Proposal: Description

For this assessment, you will prepare a project proposal for an intervention program including background, rationale, goals, program overview, and theoretical background addressing one of the three topics. Note that choosing any other topics aside from those listed below will result in a fail grade.

General Instructions

Your proposal must include the following headings only:

 Background and Rationale

  •  Introduction to the issue and justification as to why the program is needed

Goals of the program

  •  Describe the goals of the program and explain why they have been chosen

Methodology (including use of theoretical framework

  • An overview of your program: There should be sufficient information for a reader to know what components there are in your program and how they work. It should not, however, consist of minute details (e.g., curriculum of a single psychoeducation session).
  • A culturally responsive explanation of why your program will work, including application of the approach to the target population and careful consideration of the barriers to planning a culturally appropriate intervention when you are from a culturally different background.
  • Identify the theoretical framework chosen and explain how it fits within your program.

Topic 1: Resilience, social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous peoples in Australia.

Topic 2: Health Promotion Campaign

Topic 3: Australia’s Vision 2030 Blueprint for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

Assessment task 3: ePoster: Description

In assessment task 2, you (hypothetically) sent your proposal to a group of health psychologists for evaluation, and it was submitted to key stakeholders shortly after it was approved by the health psychologists. You now hear that your proposal has garnered some interest among these stakeholders. However, because the stakeholder organisation has received many proposals requesting funding, you have been asked to prepare an ePoster as part of a mini-conference competition, where the winner’s program gets funded. In addition, the key stakeholders have decided to involve community members and get them to vote for the project they think is most important for the community.

For this ePoster, you will focus on providing details of only ONE component of your program (e.g., psychoeducation, training) and how you plan to deliver that component. The component MUST be based on the program you proposed in assessment task 2 (i.e., if you proposed a program targeting ‘tobacco use’ in your assignment, then you will need to focus on that here as well). Remember you are putting this together for an audience who are non-academics, so ensure your communication is appropriate for a lay audience as community members will be viewing your poster. Keep in mind that the target population for your program is different to your audience for this poster. You should not repeat what you have submitted in the proposal as a synopsis of your proposal will be provided next to your poster. When designing your ePoster, you might want to consider the following:

1. What are the specific parts of the component? For example, a psychoeducation component might consist of 3 x 1-hour sessions conducted weekly. You will also want to provide details about each of those parts (e.g., specific topics covered in each of the 1-hour psychoeducation sessions).

2. How will you deliver the component in a manner suitable for the target population?

3. Is your presentation clear enough for a lay audience to understand the program?

4. Is your presentation engaging enough for the audience? Page 14 of 19

5. What is the best way to present the content visually? (e.g., layout, design)
