• First, analyze your problem statement using two (2) organizational theories studied in
class (about 2,000 words).
For example, if my chosen problem is about the lack of communication between residence life and admissions, 1
might use cultural and political organizational theories to understand the problem. From a political theory
framework, I might say that the two areas are competing for resources and power and therefore intentionally
do not communicate in the hopes that information asymmetry will provide a competitive advantage. From a
cultural theory framework, I might argue that residence life staff are community- and process-oriented and
therefore have a different style of communicating than their colleagues in admissions which at times may have
more of an outcome driven culture. The use of two organizational theories allows me in this example to
compare and contrast, understanding the problem in different ways.
• Second, as you discuss your theories in #2 above, incorporate 2-3 solutions you would
recommend to address the problem. How do the theories inform your solutions? Touch
on both theories when discussion your solutions.
The final paper should be 10-12 pages, but no more than 12 pages (both parts), excluding a title page and
bibliography. Use additional research and sources, citing those used.
