Each of you will use your proposed article from the previous DB to improve your selected problem. Once you have chosen your articles, you will rate and grade the evidence type and quality level using the Johns Hopkins EBP model. You can find a summary of this model in the Hopkins Individual Evidence Rating attachment below.  This tool/worksheet is to help you understand the process for rating the quality and strength of a research article. Complete one worksheet for your article (1 per person). They can be electronically filled out and uploaded to this discussion thread for your group mates to review. Each of your brought 1 scholarly article to the previous ‘article identification’ DB and that is the article you should now be critiquing.
Explanation of the Hopkins Individual Evidence Rating tool:
Start on page 1.  Enter the article information on page 1 at the top. Stop where it says, “complete after appraisal”.
The second half of Page 1 contains 3 check-off boxes. Select one. Your article will either be Quantitative, Qualitative, or Mixed Methods.
You will see that if Quantitative, go to Section 1. Complete that sheet. If Qualitative, go to section II and complete that sheet. If Mixed Methods, go to section III and complete that sheet.
After completing either Section I, II, or III, you will see below the section that there is an Appraisal.  Based on the number of Yes/No answers, you will rate your article either A-High Quality, B-Good quality, or C-Low Quality.
Once you determine the quality, you will then determine the strength and then go back to page 1 and complete the appraisal.
To determine the strength,
See the downloadable handout below titled “Hopkins Hierarchy of Strength”. You will also see the levels (I, II, III, IV, V) on the worksheets you complete. For this assignment, you should only be using research that is level I, III, or III.
