Description: Families are groups and often follow group dynamic roles and rules. Thus, reflect on your family of origin by thinking about the following questions.
What roles did members of your family take on as you were growing up?
Do you think your family had rigid, loose (diffuse), or semi-permeable boundaries?
Were there predictable patterns of behavior that you could identify in the various members of your family?
What would happen if a member of your family acted differently than expected?
Was there a family member who was scapegoated and/or an identified patient
How did your family handle conflict?
When your family experienced periods of stress, how was it handled?
What situational stress did you or members of your family experience? How was it handled?
What developmental cycles do you recall, and how did your family handle them?
How might the language (nonverbal and verbal) used in your family affect how each family member came to understand his or her place in the world
In your discussion, address the following in 200-250 words:
What surprised you about your own family of origin. How might the above information influence you as a counselor working in a school or mental health setting in groups (self-help, counseling group, task group, therapy group, or psychoeducational group) and why.
What is at least one ethical issues must you consider when working in families/groups.
As discussed, you only need to respond to two peers posting.
PLEASE SHARE WHAT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE AND WHAT YOU FEEL IS SAFE TO SHARE TO THE GROUP.1
