Design a 3-item survey to assess the research topic “office romance.” We will all us this same topic for this Discussion. We will not conduct this survey; we are simply designing items for a questionnaire. 1) You’ll need to provide a clear operational definition of office romance to guide your survey design. Your operational definition can be one sentence. For example, you will need to determine whether your survey will include items regarding physical intimacy, emotional intimacy, long-term relations, short-term relations, etc. Tip: Surveys are generally rather short (i.e., approximately 10 items) in order to maximize the number of participants who complete it. So, the focus of surveys should be quite narrow. Although the topic of office romance might seem specific, one can quickly come to see the variety of approaches to investigating this topic. For example, you could focus on the frequency of office romance and who tends to engage in it. Or, you could focus on how people feel about office romance depending on whether they have engaged in it. Or, you could focus on the existence of workplace policies discouraging office romance and attitudes toward those policies. Or, you might have a another perspective on investigating office romance. 2) Carefully craft (3) three items you could include on a survey of office romance. (Consider this a sample of 3 items you might include on a longer survey.) Include (1) one of each of the following types of survey items: a) Attitude item Ex. “I believe the U.S. should have a national health care plan.” Then provide a 1 to 5 scale for respondents to indicate their level of (dis)agreement. b) Behavior item Ex. “I spend _______ hours per week on schoolwork. ” c) Demographic item Ex. “Age _______ years” Ex. “Job title ______________” 3) Include response options for your survey items. This might include a 1 to 5 scale of agreement, a blank line with a label, a yes/no option, etc. Be sure your response options fit the question you asking your respondents
