Create a 3- to 4-slide narrated PowerPoint presentation of the public health issue or topic. Your PowerPoint Presentation should include the following:
An explanation of the public health issue or topic selected, including a justification for why this public health topic merits examination/study.
A summary of the peer-reviewed research obtained and analyzed to support the public health issue or topic selected.
Recommendations of public health strategies to address the public health issue or topic selected to effect positive social change and promote positive population health initiatives. Be specific and provide examples.
Cite the sources that you used. Put in-text citations on your slides to be clear which portions of the text came from what source and then list the full sources in APA format at the bottom of the slide in a small font.
This presentation submission will be compiled as part of your group’s Town Hall Presentation that is due in Module 5. This Assignment, however, should be completed individually. The topic that you are presenting on should align with the topic your group is using for the final Town Hall Presentation. The research you conduct for this individual presentation should be collated with other group members’ research in later modules and used in your Group Project Town Hall Presentation.
What I am looking for:
I want to see what you believe the focus of this presentation is. If your point of view is significantly different from your group, I want to be able to make sure you check in with the group. I also want to be sure the presentation flows well. If your team thinks they are doing water quality around the problem, and you do your presentation on air quality, your presentation is going to be hard to follow.
When you give the summary of peer-reviewed research I want you to submit what you have found for your role. This is not everyone sending in the reference list for the entire project. I only want to see the references for your research.
The social change question is your point of view on that. There is no obligation to make it match everyone else in your group. I want you thinking about positive social change and how your work in this presentation (and in your career) is affected by the goal of positive social change.
The last item is to be sure you are using APA appropriately. If you think you are doing it right, or you have no idea what I am talking about, please check the APA v7 handbook. I find that I need to go back to APA any time I do a reference. No matter how much I think I know it, there is a comma or an italic that I am missing. Please be sure you are doing the references properly.
The Town Hall Scenario is as follows:
Fluoride Frenzy:
Your community currently has non-fluoridated water and is in the process of deciding whether to fluoridate its public water supplies. The community is split and contentious on this issue: Those in favor think fluoridating the water will reduce the rate of dental cavities among the community’s children. Those opposed are concerned that fluoride in drinking water is unsafe. Your team will need to define and characterize the risks and benefits for fluoridating this community’s water.
I am requesting that each person take on at least one “content role.” A content role is one that requires research into the subject. For this project content roles are hazard investigation, human exposure information, prevention information, innovative solutions, monitoring, evaluation and social change.
Please understand that you are to make this presentation for a community (not for me, not for scientists…remember you are presenting to laypeople) and it should flow well between slides, sections and presenters
