CPCCBC4053 Apply building codes and standards to the construction process ASSESSMENT TASKS
SECTION A – REQUIRED SKILLS
Apply building codes Assessment Task 1 – Written Assignment
Instructions
Carry out an inspection of an existing Type C building and identify compliance with NCC Section C performance requirements for fire resistance.
You must complete this assessment task on your own, and are not to work in groups. It must be your own work
The intent of this assessment task is to demonstrate your ability to recognise active and passive fire resistance measures in a Type C building, and any NCC Volume 1 Section C compliance issues or defects as well as any other non-fire resistance defects that you encounter.
Your trainer/assessor will then guide you through the process to complete this assessment task.

SECTION C – PERFORMANCE ACTIVITY
Assessment Task 3 – Major Project
Using plans and specifications provided by your trainer or your own building documentation, apply codes and standards to the construction process for two low-rise building projects:
Task 3.1 – The first project is to be a class 2, 3 or 9 building;
Task 3.2 – The second project is to be a class 5, 6, 7 or 8 building.
The candidate must satisfactorily complete the following for each project:
Determine the class of building using the National Construction Code (NCC) classifications
Determine the type of construction and use from the project documentation;
Identify current building and construction codes and Australian Standards relevant to the project;
Apply NCC Performance Requirements in relation to the design and construction of the building addressing:
Structure;
Fire protection
access and egress
services and equipment
health and amenities
ancillary provisions
energy efficiency
Apply Performance solutions to ensure construction complies with Performance Requirements and note any Deemed to Satisfy solutions that have been adopted;
If the building is under construction or has been constructed, identify any faults and problems and propose actions to rectify;
Identify relevant environmental issues and solutions;
Identify and summarise the builder’s OH&S requirements, organisational policies and procedures including Construction Management Plan, Environmental Management Plan and Quality Plan relevant to the project.
As a guide, each project report is expected to be a minimum of five single sided A4 pages.
