Civil Rights refer to all members of our society enjoying the political, social, and natural rights established with the founding of the United States and the Constitution. Unfortunately, during the various periods of our nation’s history, certain groups of society were unable to fully participate. Women were not able to vote until 1920, non-property-owning white males were kept from voting in the early stages of our republic, and many Blacks, Latinos, and other minorities faced periods that challenged their full enjoyment of their rights and freedoms. Review the amendments that have expanded voting and civil rights (13, 14, 15, 19, 26) and then answer the following question: Which amendment do you believe was most important in expanding civil rights? Why did you pick this one? How have various ethnicities, women, and other groups utilized similar patterns (specific strategies and tactics) to secure their rights in the United States? What were effective methods of creating change?
