Write a short paper that explains the main concepts that students need to know. (2 pages
minimum, 4 pages maximum) You should address the questions below in your paper with a
paragraph to each topic (3 sentences minimum for each paragraph).
2. Then choose 5 of the STAAR questions and provide an explanation of how you solved each
problem. At the top of the page, provide the problem number you are solving from the
STAAR question type a copy of the problem. Follow it with your presentation of its solution.
You do not need to fill the entire page with a solution, the one page per problem is for me to
be able to see where one problem ends and the next begins. (Choose a mix of problems and
not just 5 find the volume problems.)
3. The paper should be written using your own words. Do not cut and paste from a web site. Cite
your sources and use APA style, cover page, paper and citations.
Topics to Cover in your paper.
1. What is a rectangular prism? How do you find the volume of a rectangular prism?
2. Suppose you know the volume of a rectangular prism and also the area of the base. How can you
find the height?
3. What is a cube? How do you find the volume of a cube?
4. The volume formulas include the words “base” and “height”, but these words can be confusing
because they can refer either to the “base” and “height” of the three-dimensional figure, or they
can refer to the “base” and “height” of part of the figure. For example, if you are talking about a
triangular prism, the prism has a base and a height, but the triangular bases also have their own
bases and heights. Choose a problem from the STAAR questions or materials in Canvas and
discuss the different meanings of “base” and “height” as they relate to the figure in the problem.
5. What is a triangular prism? How do you find the volume of a triangular prism?
6. What is a square pyramid? How do you find the volume of a square pyramid?
7. What is a triangular pyramid? If you know the area of the base and the height, how do you find the
volume of the triangular pyramid?
