First, pick a theme/topic (i.e., sports, Cowboys/vaqueros, entertainment, art, music, immigration, yachting, education, women, medicine). Then, you will select five historical events (major and minor) that happened during the time period of this week’s reading—essentially 1877 to the early 1900s. You will then create a five-point timeline around this theme/topic.
Here are the specific details:
You will write a 150-word introduction that explains the theme and why you have chosen the theme.
You will write a brief summary of the article, and this summary will be at least 150 words. Each summary will include a DIRECT quote from the newspaper source. (This means you’ll have FIVE paragraphs and FIVE direct quotes, hence the name–five-point timeline.)
QUOTATIONS: As previously mentioned, EACH 150-word article summary will have ONE short (no more than two sentences) direct quote from the article. Do NOT just drop in the quotes, and do make sure you properly cite the quotation.
Before or after each entry, include a screenshot of the article from which you got the information.
You will use newspapers or magazines FROM THE TIME PERIOD to gather your information. Do NOT simply use Google; the information MUST COME FROM MAGAZINES OR NEWSPAPERS FROM THE TIME PERIOD. If you use secondary sources, you will automatically receive a zero on this assignment.
CHICAGO or MLA–Make sure you accurately cite the information so that you are not plagiarizing what you find.
If you’re doing the math correctly, you will see that your final submission will be at least 900 words.
