Discussion – Planners and Learners
Note: This
can either be a written or video discussion post.
Introduce yourself to your peers by sharing something
unique about your background. Explain how you expect this course will help you
move forward in your current or future career.
At some point during your professional or personal life,
you’ve probably planned an event. This may have been a birthday party,
graduation, or a training or introduction to a new system or process at work.
Program and curriculum planning uses similar methods and processes. Chapter 1
of the text discusses the conventional/traditional approach to program planning
and the pragmatic/practical approach.
·
Recall a time where you
were a planner for a professional or personal event/program.
·
Describe if your planning approach was closer
to the convention/traditional approach or to the pragmatic/practical approach
and why you went with that approach.
Welcome to our fantastic collaboration! I look forward to
reading your introductions and the opportunity to learn about any event that
you have planned and the approaches followed detailing the approach!!  I’m
excited to meet all of you. I look forward to an outstanding learning
experience!

STUDENT – LP
Good morning, Class/Dr. Mike:
My uniqueness stems from my passion for learning. After this
program, I will have earned four degrees. It has been a journey, but I still
enjoy every minute. This course will help me get one step closer to my passion
for assisting individuals to achieve their dreams.
My planning approach for a professional event was closer to
the pragmatic/practical approach. Specifically, I was tasked with organizing a
series of training workshops for a new software program, which needed to
accommodate a diverse group of employees with varying levels of technical
expertise.
Before taking this course, I needed to be more knowledgeable
of the different approaches to program planning. After reading chapter one,
here’s why I opted for the pragmatic/practical approach:
The training workshops had to adapt to the employees’
different learning paces and styles. While I initially had a broad outline of
the training modules, I allowed for flexibility to adjust the content based on
the immediate feedback and the participants’ learning progress. This required a
continuous assessment of how the sessions were received and making necessary
adjustments.
A one-size-fits-all training program was not an option; I
had to consider various real-world constraints such as time availability,
varying job responsibilities, and the existing workload of the employees. This
meant scheduling multiple sessions at different times and design the content to
fit the specific needs of each department.
I involved key stakeholders, including team leads and tech
specialists, in planning. This approach ensured that the training addressed the
actual needs and challenges faced by the employees. Their input was crucial in
developing a relevant and effective program.
