You respond that you will contact his parents. He acknowledges with a nod of his head, and you arrange a meeting after school.
Nathan’s parents and Nathan meet with you after school. Nathan’s parents share that smoking is a family habit. Nathan’s family and you discuss the health issues associated with smoking. Nathan’s father voices that, as a family, they are willing to try a smoking cessation program. Nathan’s parents have smoked for 16 years, each two packs a day. Nathan is subjected to secondhand smoke at home and sneaks an occasional cigarette, approximately one every two days for the last three months.
Step 2 Analyze the scenario and develop a plan of care.
