Two truths and a lie?
It can be difficult to see at first glance to judge whether the information you find on the internet is valid and useful. Some may appear visually appealing and well-written but have a poor factual basis for the argument or even a lack of argument! Others may be a bit boring at first glance but provide an excellent summary of the research and findings to support your position. For this assignment, imagine you are asked to write a research paper on a topic of your choice. To do this you will need to find appropriate references. We want you to explore what is available on the internet and compare the value of the resources based on their use of data to substantiate their argument.
Deliverable 1
1. Do an internet search on any topic that you are interested in that makes a clear argument. The topic can be anything you are interested in or something frequently discussed on the internet. However the topic should be more than just speculative or opinion. This could be questions such as the most effective ways to lose weight, do pets help you live longer, or effective ways to increase grades. 2. Locate three articles that you feel represent use of data on your chosen topic. Two articles should represent good use of data and the third builds a weaker argument (such as lacking empirical evidence, sparse data, suspect data, or the connection to the data is biased by their own conclusions).
3. Fill out the Worksheet using the three articles you have found.

Basic Writing Requirements for Essays
