You have a choice of several topics for Essay 4. Choose ONE of these topics and write and post an essay on it.
You have twenty minutes to post your essay. As I mention elsewhere, you can write your essay in the Canvas text editor, or you can write it in any word processor you want and then copy and paste it into the text entry field in Canvas. If you do the latter, you can take longer to write your essay because you compose it outside of Canvas; you need to open Canvas only to paste the text where I can see it.
This essay is worth 50 points (out of 1000 points for the course).
Don’t be excessively concerned with spelling, grammar, etc. What matters is if I can tell what you’re saying. I am looking for your own ideas combined with accurate knowledge.
A good answer should include the following:
An indication of which topic the essay is addressing
A sentence or two stating a thesis or providing an answer
Several sentences explaining or supporting the answer.
Don’t forget to mention specific people, places, times, and events as best you can, to provide evidence for the larger theme of your answer.
Write an essay on ONE of the following topics:
Choose two of the following technical and economic developments in the United States between 1815 and 1860 and explain how they related to each other: Commercial revolution, transportation revolution, communication revolution, transformation of agriculture.
Compare Irish and German immigrants to the United States in the early 1800s. What religion were they? How well educated were they? How well were they doing economically when they came to the United States? Why did they come to the United States?
Explain two features of the Missouri Compromise.
What were two issues during Andrew Jackson’s Presidency? What did President Jackson do about these issues?
What were two features of society and culture that African Americans developed under slavery?
What were two distinctive features of Mormonism and/or how the Mormon Church started and grew?
What were two issues that supporters of abolition disagreed about among themselves?
