As a forensic psychology professional, when working with someone who has a neurodevelopmental disorder or an intellectual developmental disability, it is important to keep in mind that there is a higher likelihood that they may be gullible, naïve, and/or suggestible. Oftentimes, this results in vulnerability and potential victimization of the individual. In fact, research indicates that “individuals with developmental disabilities are between four and 10 times more at risk of being a victim of crime (Sobsey, et. al., 1995; found in Allely, et. al., p.50). For this Discussion, you will examine two case studies—one about autism spectrum disorder and the other about intellectual and developmental disability (IDD). You will then analyze the forensic psychology implications of these neurodevelopmental disorders and consider how this information may inform your decision-making as a forensic psychology professional.

Review the neurodevelopmental disorders in the DSM-5.

Based on the DSM-5 and the scholarly articles found in this week’s Learning Resources, define and explain the neurodevelopmental disorder exemplified in the case study that you selected.
